re Kete Nui

The giant basket is taking shape - the panels are made from of a minimum
of four layers of NZ Flax and give a nicely padded feel

etahi kete nui

Its raining again but we spent a luvly morning sitting in the sunshine
and weaving on our group project:
*etahi kete nui / some large basket *( working name only)
We took some time to set the basic lines by aligning the first finished
rolls.
As traditional , some flax had been gathered before the rain and allowed
about 6 of us to keep on weaving -
It was a pleasure to notice how the patterns and colours of many styles
are already creating such a multi-people feeling.
It will take a while…

(to be continued)

Hikoi

After several weeks of weaving I unroll some great pictures - one of
them will be called hikoi and its inspiration came from our walk to cape
brett in february 2010

Fresh morning breeze

made in 3 layers:
a) painted and printed canvas
b) handwoven linen. copper and nylon
c) machine embroidery
the layers are stitched together freely, so airflow can add some movement
the colours are cool and fresh, just like the first autumn breezes the
southerly wind is bringing lately
the combination of different techniques is adding depth and lets details
to be discovered
